THE FRUIT STAND In 1947 there was a small fruit stand located on Hwy. 70 in Glencoe, New Mexico. Travelers on this narrow and winding road would stop and purchase fresh fruit and were introduced to cherry cider for the first time.
Owned and operated by Gary & Pat Rue
The Fruit Stand now located just a mile away from the original location on the Billy the Kid Scenic Byway on hwy. 70 has been in operation since October 1981.The Fruit Stand is now being run by the third, fourth and fifth generation of their family.
The Fruit Stand is open year round. During the summer season you can find New Mexico fruits, such as cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, pears, and several varieties of apples. Cherry cider, apple cider, and raspberry cider are available all year. You will find a jelly kitchen fully stocked with many varieties of preserves and jellies, syrups and honey. There is also a large selection of sugar free preserves.
The Fruit Stand also carries salted pistachios, green chili & garlic pistachios, and red chili pistachios that are raised locally. Valencia peanuts from the Portales area are available.
Fresh green chili is available the middle of August thru the end of October. At this time of year a large selection of fresh red chili ristras and wreaths are available. Once the ristras and wreaths are sundried they can also be purchased year round.
We take pride in the fact that we continue to carry on the traditions and family values of our grandfather and father.
